I then give them a painted, distressed finish before antiquing them and giving them a beeswax finish (or a stained finish for protection from water).
They can also be left a raw timber with just a beeswax finish if you want.

It's made from pine and I then painted the entire piece in burgundy before distressing, ageing it and finishing with a stain varnish...
This particular tray measures 70cm wide x 35cm deep x 6.5cm high.
It is a good size for most bathtubs (including my old clawsfoot one seen in the photos).
